A second life for cardboard. Why OWCA packs 'imperfectly perfectly'

At OWCA we like things that are real. Wool that genuinely warms. Seams that someone actually sewed. And boxes that have already been on a journey — a real one.
Instead of throwing away packaging and fillers, we give them a second life. It's a simple gesture, but it makes sense: less waste, fewer resources used, more to spend on what matters most to us — good wool and local craftsmanship.

Why do we do it?

  • For the planet — every "reuse" means less waste and a smaller carbon footprint.

  • For quality — we'd rather spend more on materials and craft than on single-use boxes.

  • For honesty — not everything has to look "catalogue-perfect" to be worthwhile. What matters is what's inside.

What we reuse (and how we keep it presentable):

  • Boxes from returns and deliveries — only clean, dry and in good condition. We remove old labels, seal with paper tape and stamp them "Second life box".

  • Fillers: paper, corrugated cardboard, occasionally bubble wrap — only reclaimed and clean (if it's already there — we don't buy new).

  • Paper wrapping and cardboard scraps — cut to size so your order arrives safe and tidy.

What we never reuse:

  • Boxes that are damaged, dirty, damp, smelly or greasy.

  • Unhygienic or questionable fillers.
Your woollen item needs to arrive safely and cleanly — that's non-negotiable.

"My box looked used…"

It very possibly was. Not every hero wears a cape — some carry the marks of a previous journey.
What arrives "imperfect" on the outside protects something very perfect on the inside: softness, warmth and craftsmanship. Reusing packaging helps us keep prices stable, avoid wasting resources and act in line with what we believe in.

How you can help

  • Need a fresh box for a gift? Just let us know in the order notes — we'll pack it gift-style.
  • Pass the box on — reuse it yourself or give it to someone who can pack something else in it.

How to spot a second-life parcel

  • A stamp or sticker: "Second life box".

  • Paper tape, sometimes extra sealing over old label marks.

  • Occasionally faint traces of a previous journey — never at the expense of safety or cleanliness.

Transparency over perfection

We believe beauty lies in honesty. If you ever receive a box that "doesn't look new", it means you're helping us reduce waste and support thoughtful craftsmanship. Thank you — it genuinely matters.
