How to wash a merino beanie — a care guide

Merino beanies are exceptional accessories that combine style, comfort and functionality. To keep their properties and appearance for longer, proper washing and care is important. This guide will show you how to wash merino beanies so you can enjoy their softness and durability for many seasons.

How to wash merino beanies — the basics

Merino beanies offer exceptional warmth, breathability and moisture management. To maintain these properties:

1. Use gentle wool detergents

Always use specialist detergents designed for wool when washing merino beanies. Regular detergents can damage the delicate fibres.

2. Hand washing

Hand washing in lukewarm water is the best method for merino beanies. Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add a small amount of wool detergent. Gently submerge the beanie and leave for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

3. Gentle washing

Avoid rubbing or wringing the beanie. Gently knead it in the water, then squeeze out excess moisture without twisting.

4. Drying

After washing, gently squeeze out excess water and lay flat on a clean towel to dry. Reshape the beanie gently while damp. Avoid tumble drying and direct sunlight.

Washing merino beanies in the machine

If you choose to machine wash your merino beanie, use a wool or delicate programme at a maximum of 30°C, low spin speed and a specialist wool detergent.

Why care for merino beanies?

Proper care keeps your beanie soft, shapely and long-lasting — protecting your investment and the environment.

Storing merino beanies

At the end of the season, store your merino beanies clean in breathable cotton bags, away from direct sunlight.
